Design-oriented noise reduction products, including acoustic lighting, textile/pattern panels, wood-slat systems, and acoustic curtains, are increasingly used in indoor environments. However, their acoustic performance is expressed using different indices, such as sound absorption coefficient (α), NRC, αw, and equivalent sound absorption area (Aeq). Moreover, differences in mounting conditions and spatial arrangement make direct comparisons difficult. This study proposes an office-based testbed for evaluating installation-dependent acoustic performance under consistent room conditions.

An enclosed office measuring 4.0 × 5.5 × 2.8 m (61.6 m³) was selected as the test space. Reverberation time (RT) measurements are planned based on the engineering method of ISO 3382-2, using two omnidirectional sound-source positions and three fixed microphone positions, providing six source–microphone combinations. An A–B–A′ measurement sequence, consisting of baseline measurement, product installation, and baseline recheck, is proposed to improve measurement reliability. Octave-band RT from 125 to 4,000 Hz is adopted as the primary evaluation metric.

For preliminary analysis, a Sabine-based simulation was conducted using reference absorption coefficients of a textile panel with installation areas of 4, 8, and 12 m². Assuming a baseline average RT of 0.900 s over 500–2,000 Hz, the predicted average RT values were 0.681, 0.548, and 0.459 s, respectively. The proposed testbed is expected to provide a consistent framework for comparing the room-level acoustic effects of different design-oriented products. Future work will focus on experimental verification of measurement repeatability and installation-dependent performance.
